We have chosen alternative Birthstones in some instances, as real precious gems are not always available! Rest assured all Stones are Semiprecious and not just a rock.
Several Signs have more than one Birthstone and some only have one. I have tried to match or duplicate the stone and its metaphysical characteristics or properties to the Precious Gem.
January - Garnet
A Deep Red-Purple Stone.
Metaphysical Properties: Encourages imagination, a stone of devotion to lovers, passion for others and oneself. Self esteem.
February - Amethyst, A Crystal
Ranges in color from Light Transparent Lavender to a Deep Opaque Royal Purple.
Metaphysical Properties: Promotes creativity, intuition, inner peace and spiritual awareness.
Interesting Fact: Thought to prevent drunkenness, in ancient times wine goblets were lined with or made entirely out of Amethyst. From the Greek word: amethystos, "not drunken". Many ranking members of the Catholic Church wear rings set with large amethysts as apart of their office.
March - Amazonite
This versatile stone comes in many colors. I have chosen its Aqua color for its resemblance to Aquamarine and the soft blue color reminds one of water.

April - Clear Quartz, A Crystal
Clear Quartz is an excellent amplifier and transmitter. I have chosen it for its clarity and resemblance to the Diamond.
Metaphysical Properties: Balances healing energies, directs and transmits thoughts. Used for divination.
Interesting Fact: In ancient times referred to as "Frozen water from Heaven"; due to it's glass-like appearance it was also called "Solidified Light". From the old Saxon 'quertz' meaning "cross vein ore".
May - Emerald
Clear Grass Green Color.
Malachite: A Deep Forest Green Color
I have chosen Malachite. Its bright green color mimics the moors and reminds one of outdoors, hills, trees, and grass.
Metaphysical Properties:
Aventurine (Green), A Crystal. (Alternative)
Often miss-pronounced or miss-spelled "Adventurine", this beautiful crystal ranges in colors from yellow to deep green and maybe transparent or opaque.
Metaphysical Properties: Inspires joy, a positive attitude and mental clarity.
Interesting Fact: The name Aventurine is derived from the Italian 'ventura', meaning "a mistake". In the 18th a speckled glass was created by accident in Venice. The stone was named for this glass due to its appearance. Sometimes mistakenly referred to as "Indian Jade".
June - Golden Leaf Agate
This lovely stone has a myriad of colors and appearances. I have chosen Golden Leaf Agate for its rich warm earth tones and flecks of gold through out each bead.
Metaphysical Properties: Acceptance, offers emotional and physical balance, connects to nature and fosters love.
July: Pearl - A "gem" created oysters.
Natural Pearls occurring in nature, Fresh Water Natural and Cultured Pearls, both Fresh Water and Forced, are prized for their White color and high luster.
August - Peridot
A light green color.
Metaphysical Properties: Brings happiness aids in over coming anger or jealousy.
Red Jasper (Alternative)
An earthy terra cotta colors.
Metaphysical Properties: Aids in remembering dreams, brings balance, thought to warn or rescue one from danger.
Interesting Fact: Part of the quartz family, its color comes from iron oxide. It was used as an amulet to protect one from venomous creatures, drought and general disturbances.
September - Lapis Lazuli
Physical Description: It is a rock. To be a mineral it would have to be made up of one constituent, instead it is comprised of several, making it a rock. I have chosen Lapis Lazuli due to its resemblance to Sapphire. This beautiful stone is a dark blue or soft denim color with streaks of gold (pyrite) through out the bead.
Metaphysical Properties: Aligns the ethical, spiritual and mental bodies, all knowing, invoking wisdom and expression. Traditionally a stone of royalty.
October - Rose Quartz (a crystal)
Physical Description: Delicate and soft, the variation of pink mimics the qualities of Opal.
Metaphysical Properties: Forgiveness, comfort, representing unconditional love and harmony.
Interesting Fact: Natural crystals are rare and are usually seen as rounded beads or tumble stones (Alchemists Vessel uses natural beads and nuggets). In some instances when cut, the stone may produce a star-like effect, caused by inclusions of rutile needles.

Interesting Fact: Tourmaline was once thought to be an evil stone that connected one with the dark powers of the universe.
November: Citrine
Physical Description: A member of the quartz family it is light to deep yellow in color. It resembles Golden Topaz
Metaphysical Properties: Thought to attract wealth and ward off evil thoughts.
Alternative - Snow Quartz
Physical Description: I have chosen Snow Quartz for its soft white color.
Metaphysical Properties: Purity, associated with blessings and initiations, aids in cleansing and rejuvenating mind and spirit.
Interesting Fact: It is a physical representation of pure white light. White light is made up of all the colors of the spectrum - therefore this stone holds all the colors of the rainbow and creates perfect balance and harmony.
NOTE: Other November Birthstones include Topaz. Topaz may be white, blue or yellow. Faceted Topaz head pins are available.
December - Turquoise (a precious stone)
Physical Description: Sky-blue in color with a black matrix.
Metaphysical Properties: Sometimes worn as a healing stone or a stone of protection.
Interesting Fact: Symbolizes the sky. Highly prized for its appearance, it is primarily mixed with or set in silver for rings, necklaces, earrings and other adornments.

Amber: The fossilized resin of coniferous trees. The Greeks called it electron. Amber symbolizes life, divinity and the Sun. Amber is used for healing, courage, strength, beauty and positive energy.
Carnelian: Reminds us to be "in the moment". A stone of protection from anger, jealousy, and fear. Brings serenity and acceptance. Represents the great cycle of life.
Citrine: Representing the sun or sunlight, it is thought to attract wealth and protect one from evil thoughts. In ancient times it was believed to guard against snake venom. A stone of joy.
Hematite: From the Greek 'haema' meaning blood, due to the red color seen on the surface of the stone before cutting and polishing. Containing mainly iron, it is found in both crystalline and rough form. Warriors carried this stone as they thought it made them invulnerable and indestructible.
Jade: A variety of Hornblende, it is the stone of perfection. Thought to be the Sacred Jewel of Heaven in China.
Jet: This black, light stone is actually a carbon stone of fossilized wood. Used for health and to drive away serpents. A Jet and Amber necklace is often referred to as a "Witch’s Necklace."
Rhodonite: The official stone of Oregon. This deep pink stone is believed to stabilize one's thinking and helps in making distinctions in people. Allows one to see love in life's experiences both simple and complex.
Sodalite: A mineral found in Lava Rock.
Tiger Eye (Gold): Distinctive bands of brown and golden yellow combine to create this shimmering stone. A member of the Quartz family, it is popular with Healers and Crystal Collectors alike - it's warm vibrant colors change with the light. Traditionally Tiger Eye was thought to protect one from harm and useful in the guarding of possessions.
Unakite: A blend of pale greens and pinks cover the surface of this rock. Yes, it is a rock. It is made up of several minerals, including Quartz, Feldspar and Green Epidote (sometimes called 'pistacite' due to its pistachio like coloring). Originally found in North Carolina, U.S.A., in the Unakas Mountain Range, from where it derives its name.
